For women that want a very capable all-rounder road bike for sportive racing, endurance riding, commuting, fitness and recreation, the Giant Avail Advanced 1 can do it all. The combination of a disc specific carbon composite frame and quality spec at such an affordable price is rare to see.
To make sure the Avail has the right fit and geometry, a female only team designed and engineered each model. Think of the popular Giant Defy, but with a female friendly spec, shorter toptube and modified tube shapes for smaller and lighter riders.
Frame & Fork
Key to the performance and feel of the Avail is that Advanced Grade Composite frame. Giant use high performance T-700 raw carbon fibre because it is extremely light, stiff and strong - ideal for all road cycling. The frame is also built in a monocoque construction for better stiffness to weight ratio.
The carbon layup has been tuned for smaller and lighter riders. Compliance features are built into the seatstays and seat tube to take out as much road buzz as possible, without being sluggish to ride.
Up-front you get a carbon composite fork matched to an OverDrive steerer tube. The combination improves stiffness for steering precision, and compliance thanks to the composite fork. Your hands and arms will fatigue at a slower rate on longer rides.
Stiffness has been improved in the bottom bracket area with the PowerCore BB. The oversized platform improves pedalling efficiency.
Components
New for 2015 the Advanced 1 is completely disc specific. In fact, every carbon Avail is disc specific, just like Giant have done with the Defy range. TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes provide better feel and power than traditional brakes, no matter the weather. This opens the Avail up to year round riding, and improves its capabilities as an urban commuter.
When you’re riding through urban areas you need powerful brakes that will work no matter what. They also require less maintenance.
Equipped is a 22 speed 2x11 Shimano Ultegra drivetrain. This is only one step down from the pro level Dura Ace. Ultegra is a performance system which is lightweight, extremely reliable and provides crisp shifting and gearing.
The 11-32 cassette comes with a wide range and close spacing between the gears. There are plenty of gears for climbing whilst still being able to ride with optimal cadence. You get a cleaner handlebar setup as the cables go under your bar tape.
Helping keep you in the saddle for longer is the new D-Fuse composite seatpost. It has been designed to deflect slightly to minimise road buzz passing through the saddle into your muscles.
The Avail Advanced 1 comes spec’d with women’s specific features. A shorter reach to the brake levers and a narrower profile handlebar means you feel less stretched out. Also equipped is a women’s saddle that’s designed to fit the female form.
